Thank you for joining us on our journey to open the first worked-owned coffee shop!
As part of the ride, we pop up and serve coffee at multiple locations. After a couple of rainy and slow months (we had to take care of Tipsy, our espresso machine, from the rain), we made the most of the sunny days once they returned to us Angelenos.
Although we had a limited amount of pop ups at BALAM, we engaged with different academic spaces and community events throughout Lynwood and beyond.
Lynwood Union Grand Opening, Lynwood
(used with permission from Facebook.com/thelynwoodunion).
We kicked off the month with a lively, colorful and harmonious grand opening to Lynwood’s new gallery, showcasing the beauty and history of our beloved hometown.
Kateri recited a couple poems written by students, and Jonathan kept impressing the masses with our delicious drinks!
Shout out to Rowland for hustling to make this space available for our community!
Rock & Roll Flea Market at Regent Theater, DTLA
Our second month popping up here, the LA Arts district welcomes our coffee with open arms, and we welcome locals into the large market with thousands of records to choose from!
We look forward to being there monthly, so catch us there, LA!
Alice in Wonderland Play: Young Actors Guild at Firebaugh High School, Lynwood
This is not the first time we have popped up outside one of the YAG’s plays, and we were happy to be invited once again!
A lot of the actors are regular Last Fridays visitors, and now we got to see them play!
Students in the high school got a chance to try out our yummy iced lattes (the Lavender latte was a favorite!), and enjoyed a wonderful show.
Part of our sales went directly to the club to help them continue showcasing the arts.
Although it was very busy throughout the night, Kat got to take a picture with Freddy the Falcon, the FHS mascot!
LA CAUSA Youthbuild, East LA – Fundraiser and Environmental Justice Festival – Double time awesome time!
This month we had the pleasure of serving coffee at LA CAUSA Youthbuild during the week, then later during their Environmental Justice Festival. This festival was run by the students and teachers, and the energy of the performances and the students we got to meet was so inspiring!
At the pop up we exchanged ideas, knowledge, and a couple tunes on guitars and ukuleles, only filling up the air with a more happy environment!
5 Friday Months are the Best…
Why? This means we get to pop up at Alivio Open Mic, since they host their monthly event every 4th Friday, and we do it every Last Friday (get it, Last Fridays? We don’t mind reminding you, don’t worry.)
This also meant that they popped up at our monthly event…
On top of a wonderful line up and a lot of wonderful vendors, we are happy to see locals make this the reunion spot among friends (we see you Lynwood alumni, hanging out here during your colleges’ Spring Breaks!)
We featured a huge coffee cup with our infamous “Community Is” caption that we have in all our beverages, because Last Fridays is the prime place for the joys of love, community, and progress to blossom in conversations… and a cup of coffee 😉
We hope you enjoyed reading this as much as we loved experiencing it. It is because of supporters like YOU that we are motivated to grow and actively define what #communityis !
With warm love,
Kat & Jon
